MENARD, Eugene (Gene)
Born August 2, 1922 and on September 30, 2013, I have departed from a wonderful and happy life. Predeceased by loving and caring parents, Arthur and Alma Menard, River Canard. In marriage I was doubly blessed. My first wife, the late Loretta (nee McDonald) (1930 – 1985) was a model partner who was a guiding light in raising our 7 children: Susan Menard (B.A.) – Toronto, Ontario; Michele Menard and husband Valentino Ferazzutti, Woodbridge, Ontario; Patty Anne Menard (B.Sc. M. Sc. M.D.) and husband David Cudmore (M.D.) – Antigonish, N.S.; Elaine Menard (B.A., LL.B., LL.M.) and husband Micheal Swayne (P. Eng) Ottawa; Yvette Menard (D.M.D.) Comox B.C.; Robert Menard, Vancouver, B.C. – who served 3 ½ years in the Canadian Armed Forces in Germany and Barbara Menard (B. Sc., M. Sc.) Denver, Co. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In 1987, I married a beautiful person, Sandy (Moore) and added 3 grown children to my family, Nick Moore and wife Mare, Windsor; Tim Moore (B. Sc.) and wife Erica, Nelson, B. C.; Laura and husband Bob Bouffard, Amherstburg. I am grateful that they accepted me as their stepdad. Sandra and I have traveled extensively, visiting 30 countries in 5 continents, making us more appreciative of our great country. My younger siblings, Jeanne, Arthur (late), Marguerite, Jean-Paul (late), Yvonne, Cecile and Francoise, I have loved you and your children. I served 4 years in the Canadian Armoured Corps (tanks) during WWII, not with distinction but with a sense of duty protecting this great country. I have been a member of the R. C. Legion for over 35 years; presently with Br. 157 A’Burg, K. of C. Council 2110 A’Burg and have been active with St. Vincent De Paul Society for many years. All three have enhanced my faith. I retired from Chrysler in 1986 and wish to thank my employer and the C.A.W. Local 444 for the years of steady employment and the benefits derived from union contracts. I was elected in 1982 serving 5 terms as a trustee to the former Essex County Roman Catholic School Board. I was an avid fisherman and moose hunter. I pray to be reunited with family and the many friends I have known. “Do not mourn me, nor for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.”
Visiting at the JAMES H. SUTTON FUNERAL HOME, 401 Sandwich St., S., Amherstburg (519-736-2134) on Thursday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Legion Service Br. 157 at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Friday, October 4, 2013 from the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to St. John the Baptist Church for Mass at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Vincent DePaul Society would be greatly appreciated.
